Laboratory Safety Regulations

Accidents/illness requiring First aid:
1-Summon the assistance of other colleagues.
2-Until the arrival of transport do not move the patient.
3-Render assistance/comfort to casualty.
4-A colleague should travel with the patient to the clinic or hospital.
5-All accidents involving in jury and equipment should be reported to coordinator and  registrar.
1-Care should be taken when discarding cigarettes and matches.
2-Switch off all electrical equipment when not in use.
3-Close all doors and windows of laboratory at the end of the working day.
4-Waste material should not be allowed to accumulate, consult the appropriate farash for disposal
ii.Evacuation of Buildings:
1-In the event of a fire being discovered.
 -Leave the lab. And close the door.
 -If it is safe to do so, use fire extinguisher or hose reel to attach fire (if they are available). Do not use water where electrical equipment or inflammable liquids are found.
2-Know every escape route in the area.
3-Do not re-enter the building until authorized.
Electrical Equipment:
1-Do not interfere with electrical equipment report faults to the chief technician.
2-Do not over load power point.
3-Bare wires should not be mounted unless they are given additional shielding.
4-Equipments should only be used by persons who have had instruction in their use.
5-The link up of groups of equipment must be checked by the electronics technician, or a suitably qualified person/before being used.
6-Repairs and maintenance must not be carried out by any one apart from a qualified person.
7-More than one person must be present if electronic or electrical equipment is being used.
Microbiological Hazards:
Any worker wishing to use micro-organisms must first obtain a permission from the laboratory supervisor.
General Behavior:
There must be no horseplay, running or pushing in any area of the laboratory, and no disturbance of any kind is allowed while there are workers or researchers being analysis within the area.
Condition of Building:
1-Keep floor, doors, walls and ceilings clean all times.
2- structural faults should be reported to the maintenance committee
